PERRY COUNTY
TOURISM
It’s Just Our Nature
Spend a day or a weekend enjoying our outdoor wonderland on the
beautiful Buffalo and Tennessee rivers, We have something for
everyone-outdoor recreationalists, nature lovers, history buffs, arts
connoisseurs, foodies and more.
Outdoor Fun
Outdoors folks will love Mousetail Landing State Park right on the
banks of the mighty Tennessee River. This 1,246-acre gem offers
fishing, hiking, mountain biking and two beautiful family campgrounds.
Nearby Lady’s Bluff TVA Small Wild Area has a 2.5-mile loop trail to
the top of spectacular views atop the tallest bluffs overlooking the
Tennessee.
River recreationalists can enjoy canoeing, kayaking or fishing for
smallmouth bass on the scenic Buffalo River. Three outfitters in our
county offer boat rentals, shuttle services and riverside camping along
the longest unimpounded river in Tennessee.
The Tennessee is popular for its excellent big-water fishing
opportunities, skiing or just spending a day relaxing on the water.
History and Experience
Those interested in our national and regional heritage will enjoy
exploring our county’s historic sites. One of our oldest resources, the
Cedar Grove Furnace, produced iron from local ore and was our major
industry until Union gunboats shelled from the Tennessee River during
the Civil War; the impressive remains of the old stone stacks still
inspire awe. Our county seat of Linden was the scene of one of the
first amphibious attacks in American history when Union forces landed
from the Tennessee and captured the town and burned the
courthouse. At Lobelville, learn about the 1864 Battle of Beardstown,
one of the last Confederate victories in the western theater.
History buffs will also enjoy a visit to the Hufstedler Cemetery where
they can view “Pinckney’s Tomb,” thought to be the largest gravehouse
in Tennessee and an interesting example of funerary folk art traditions.
Enjoy the Arts
Whether it’s traditional arts like painting and sculpture or crafts like
pottery, jewelry and the fiber arts, you’ll find it all at the Buffalo River
Artisans Collective in Linden. Representing dozens of artists and crafts
workers from around the region, the gallery not only features a wide
variety of pieces for sale, but offers classes and demonstrations.
Our regionally famous “Blooming Arts Festival” in late March features
more than 150 regional artists and craft vendors along with interactive
events, music and dance, and special activities for young people. Local
eateries and food trucks offer lots of opportunities to try local and
unique cuisines.
In summer, the streets of Lobelville and Linden come alive with “Music
on Main Street,” held in each town on alternating Saturdays from
Memorial Day to Labor Day.

There is so much to do you’ll want to stay a while! The historic
Commodore Hotel in Linden’s Arts and Cultural District is a boutique
hotel offering charmingly outfitted rooms in the 1937 Staley Building
and associated properties, along with “Southern Comfort Cuisine” at the
Commodore Cafe and craft cocktails at the Speakeasy Bar.
